Indigenous people are the original inhabitants of a particular country or region, with a long history connected to that land. They have their own unique languages, cultural traditions, and belief systems, which are often different from those of modern societies. Indigenous communities usually live close to nature, often in forests, mountains, or remote areas, and their lifestyles are simple and closely linked to the environment. In Sri Lanka, the indigenous people are known as the Vedda community, who are considered the earliest inhabitants of the island. They mainly live in areas such as Dambana and Mahiyanganaya, and traditionally depended on hunting and gathering for survival. Their culture includes unique songs, dances, and spiritual practices that show a deep respect for nature. However, in the modern world, the number of indigenous people is decreasing, and their traditional way of life is gradually changing. Therefore, it is very important to protect and preserve their cultural heritage for future generations.
