Sea 🌊🌊

Image
The ocean is a vast and continuous body of saltwater that covers about 71% of the Earth’s surface. It plays a very important role in supporting life on our planet. The ocean is home to millions of living organisms, including fish, plants, mammals, and tiny microorganisms. It also helps to regulate the Earth’s climate by absorbing heat from the sun and distributing it around the world through ocean currents. One special feature of the ocean is its depth; some parts are very shallow, while others, like deep ocean trenches, are extremely deep and still not fully explored. Another important fact is that the ocean produces a large portion of the oxygen we breathe, mainly through tiny plants called phytoplankton. The ocean is also a major source of food, transportation, and natural resources for humans. Overall, the ocean is essential for life and has many unique and fascinating characteristics.

Favorite cartoon

My Favorite Cartoon Name is kolikuttu sahodarayo, I used to love watching the Sinhala cartoon “Koli Kutthu Sahodarayo” when I was a child. Back then, it was broadcast in very limited episodes, unlike today’s widespread media access. Because of this, I would eagerly wait every day to watch it, sometimes feeling a bit impatient. This story conveys important social values, especially about brotherhood and unity. Cartoon theme song,

It houses the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, which was brought to Sri Lanka from India by Princess Hemamala and Prince Dantha. Throughout history, the relic was kept in different ancient capitals such as Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa before being enshrined in Kandy. The temple is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of royal authority, as ancient kings believed that the right to rule the country depended on protecting the relic. The architecture of the temple is rich in traditional Kandyan style and holds great historical value. Tsunami

Image
A tsunami is a series of large and powerful ocean waves usually caused by undersea earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides. When the ocean floor suddenly moves, it displaces a massive amount of water, creating waves that travel across the sea at high speed. In deep water, these waves may not be very noticeable, but as they approach the shore, they grow in height and become extremely destructive. One of the most devastating examples is the Indian Ocean tsunami on December 26, 2004, which caused severe damage in many countries, including Sri Lanka, and resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. Tsunamis can destroy homes, roads, and infrastructure, contaminate water supplies, and cause major environmental and economic damage. Therefore, it is important for people living near coastal areas to be aware of tsunami warning signs and follow safety measures, such as moving to higher ground and responding quickly to official warnings.

The beginning of sinhala cinema

Image
The beginning of Sinhala cinema is considered an important cultural turning point that took place in the mid-20th century. The first Sinhala film is recognized as Kadawunu Poronduwa (Broken Promise), which was produced in 1947. This film was produced by S. M. Nayagam. It was created with songs and dances influenced by Indian cinema, and it became quite popular during that time. The storylines, music, and acting styles clearly reflected these influences. Later, during the 1950s and 1960s, efforts were made to develop a uniquely Sri Lankan identity in Sinhala cinema. A significant contribution to this transformation was made by filmmakers such as Lester James Peries. His film Rekava (The Line of Destiny) introduced realism and artistic value to Sinhala cinema. Thus, the origins of Sinh...

Indigenous people

Image
Indigenous people are the original inhabitants of a particular country or region, with a long history connected to that land. They have their own unique languages, cultural traditions, and belief systems, which are often different from those of modern societies. Indigenous communities usually live close to nature, often in forests, mountains, or remote areas, and their lifestyles are simple and closely linked to the environment. In Sri Lanka, the indigenous people are known as the Vedda community, who are considered the earliest inhabitants of the island. They mainly live in areas such as Dambana and Mahiyanganaya, and traditionally depended on hunting and gathering for survival. Their culture includes unique songs, dances, and spiritual practices that show a deep respect for nature. However, in the modern world, the number of indigenous people is decreasing, and their traditional way of life is gradually changing. Therefore, it is very important to protect and prese...

Vesak Festival

Image
The Vesak Festival is one of the most important religious celebrations for Buddhists around the world, especially in countries like Sri Lanka. It is observed on the full moon day in the month of May. Vesak commemorates three significant events in the life of Lord Buddha: his birth, his enlightenment (attaining Nirvana), and his passing away (Parinirvana). During Vesak, people engage in various religious and cultural activities. Devotees visit temples to observe religious practices such as offering flowers, lighting oil lamps, meditating, and listening to sermons. Homes, streets, and public places are beautifully decorated with colorful Vesak lanterns (called “Vesak koodu”) and illuminated pandals that depict stories from the life of the Buddha. Another important feature of Vesak is the practice of “Dansal,” where people freely distribute food and drinks to the public as an act of generosity and kindness. This reflects the core Buddhist values of compassion, sharing, and goodwill. In ad...
