President maithripala sirisena
Maithripala Sirisena is a Sri Lankan politician who served as the 7th Executive President of Sri Lanka from January 9, 2015, to November 18, 2019. Born on September 3, 1951, in Polonnaruwa to a farming family, he pursued his early education at Lakshmipuram and Thoppawwa schools and later earned a diploma in agriculture from Kundasale Agricultural College. He also studied political science at the Maxim Gorky Institute in Russia. Entering politics in 1989 as a Member of Parliament, Sirisena held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Health until 2014. In the 2015 presidential election, he contested as the common opposition candidate against Mahinda Rajapaksa and won the presidency. During his tenure, he focused on strengthening democracy and reducing corruption. He is married to Jayanthi Pushpa Kumari, and they have three children: Chathurika, Dharmani, and Daham. Rising from a rural background to the highest office in the country, Sirisena is recognized for his efforts in political reform and national reconciliation.
