Richmond Castle

 






 the most beautiful and historically significant mansions in Sri Lanka. It is located in the Kalutara area, about 40 kilometers from Colombo.

📜 History

Richmond Castle was built in the early 1900s by Mudaliyar Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena, a wealthy and prominent Sri Lankan who received an English education. The mansion was designed to reflect his English-influenced lifestyle.

There is a poignant story associated with the mansion. The Mudaliyar who built it did not have children, and his family life was reportedly not very happy. Before his death, he dedicated his wealth and property to charitable causes.

Today, Richmond Castle is open to the public and is a popular tourist attraction. It is often visited for school trips, wedding photography, and general sightseeing.
